Water Heater Closet Remediation in Asbury Park, NJ
Thermal imaging traced a leaking water heater fitting behind the wall. We removed the moldy framing finishes and cleaned the closet down to the studs.
The Problem
A musty smell near the utility closet and some swelling on the door trim led the homeowner to call us for an inspection. Our thermal camera showed a cold, wet pattern spreading up the wall from behind the water heater, and opening the wall revealed mold on the drywall, studs and sheathing.
Our Solution
After the plumber repaired the leaking fitting, we contained the closet and removed the drywall and trim around it. The studs, sheathing and floor were cleaned, treated and encapsulated, and dehumidification brought the framing back to dry readings. The closet was left clean, dry and ready for new drywall with an air scrubber running until the final check.
