The Problem

When the homeowners took down an old drop ceiling to refinish their basement, they found dark growth along most of the floor joists and the underside of the subfloor. The basement had no dehumidifier, and summer humidity had been condensing on the framing for years.

Our Solution

We sealed off the basement with containment and set up negative air, then sanded and HEPA vacuumed every joist bay. The cleaned framing was treated and encapsulated, wet insulation along the rim joists was removed and the wall framing was cleaned where needed. We installed a dedicated basement dehumidifier with a condensate pump so the space stays below 50 percent humidity after the renovation.
