Closet Wall & Crawl Space Access Remediation in Long Branch, NJ
Heavy growth in a closet above a damp crawl space was removed, along with rotted subfloor and wet insulation.
The Problem
In a shore home a few blocks from the beach, a hall closet that housed the crawl space access hatch had black mold covering the lower walls and a soft, damaged floor. Humid air from the crawl space had been rising into the closet for years, and stored items had trapped the moisture against the walls.
Our Solution
We removed stored items for cleaning, then cut out the moldy drywall, insulation and rotted subfloor around the hatch under containment. Framing in the closet and the joists below were cleaned and encapsulated. We installed a vapor barrier over the crawl space soil and recommended full encapsulation for the rest of the crawl space, which the homeowner scheduled as a second phase.
